Powis VR Headset Review

The second generation of the Powis VR viewer is a surprisingly good set of goggles that looks and feels better than its features suggest at first glance.

A cardboard-based viewer, the Powis ViewR 2.0 improved on a few key elements from the already good first version. It’s still very light, but its ergonomic design is more comfortable now; the smooth, rubber edge feels good on the face and protects the device from sweat or stains while keeping the weight to a minimum.

The Powis ViewR 2.0 also features adjustable lenses, so if you’re near/far-sighted or have astigmatism, the lenses are adjustable to provide a better viewing experience.

Another improvement over the previous version is the addition of a head strap option. A mere $5 affords one a hands-free experience.

If you have a particularly large phone, it might not fit in the Powis — maybe its only real drawback at this point; though it works with most devices 4-to-6 inch devices.

While constructed from cardboard, the design and general appearance are superior to, and more durable than, the average cardboard goggles. If a slicker-looking viewer (while still on a budget) is important to you, Powis offers an additional upgrade/option. Spend an extra $10, and pick up the Red Alligator or Tan Pebble edition; each features an extra skin that makes the final product more stylish.

The new version also features an air vent to curb the overheating that extended VR use might bring.

Conclusion

Powis ViewR is perhaps the most comfortable/best looking cardboard-based viewer around. Incredibly light, yet durable. The adjustable optics and different aesthetic options are features that you wouldn’t expect from goggles in the Cardboard category. For its price range, the Powis ViewR is definitely hard to beat.
